Our no-waste seed blends are made from 100% edible seed and have been selected to meet the regional and seasonal needs of the birds in our area. That means you only pay for fresh seed that will attract the kind of birds you want to see in your backyard.

So, what seed are we carrying in our WBU store?

In a nutshell, GOOD, FRESH seed! Years ago, before I "saw the light", I used to buy cheap big box store seed. After buying some seed at our local WBU store and talking to the original owner, my hobby really took off for the better. I discovered how all bird seed is not created equal. I actually got more variety of birds, eliminated rodents, and saved money.  I finally got to enjoy this amazing hobby to its fullest.  I eventually bought the store in 2009 and it has been an amazing journey bringing the joy of birdfeeding to thousands of people.

20 lb Seed Bags

As well as buying seed in 20 lb bags, you can also pick up our convenient 5 lb and 10lb bags. 

Here's a list of all the seed and seed blends that we stock in our store.

Black Oil Sunflower Seed - very popular with most birds and a good base to all good quality seed blends.
Safflower Seed - a "problem solver" and not that popular with grackles or even squirrels (not all of them though!)
Sunflower Chips (hearts) - great for apartment living or for decks- there are no shells to drop below the feeders to cause a mess on your deck. Again, a very popular seed for most birds. This is also available finely ground for use in Finch Feeders. Bluebirds love it!
Thistle (Nyjer) Seed - Imported from India and THE seed for American Goldfinches and Pine Siskins. Best fresh (like all of our seed) and used in special thistle feeders.
Peanuts (in shells)- Blue Jays, nuthatches, and yes squirrels, enjoy a good peanut in the shell.
Peanut Splits - tasty......and used as part of a blend or in a special peanut feeder. What birds like shelled peanuts?  It would be easier to identify those that don't!  Very popular with the aforementioned birds as well as Tufted Titmice, Northern Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, all of our woodpeckers, and even Blue Birds!

Blends

Supreme Blend is for tubes and any wooden feeder and is designed to feed just the birds at the feeder with little spillage on the ground. (Black oil, striped oil, Safflower and Sunflower chips)

Choice Blend is our second most popular blend here in Southern Pines (to No Mess). Maybe it's the peanuts that do it, but like the Supreme blend above, this can be used in almost every feeder. (Black oil, striped oil, Safflower and Sunflower chips AND Peanut splits)

Finch Blend is a blend of thistle and finely chopped sunflower chips and is a great alternative to plain thistle seed

No-Mess Seed

No-Mess Blend is similar to our Sunflower Chips, but also includes peanuts splits and tree nuts - all hulled to produce "No-Mess".  This is our single most popular mix, by far!  We use it in the feeder in front of the store and all of our staff use it at home.

Three additional blends feature a wide range of nuts and are designed to feed larger birds:

Tree Nutty is like "bird granola" and has peanuts, sunflower hearts, striped sunflower seed, cashews, almonds and some corn - it is immensely popular with the birds at our feeder.

Wildlife Blend is designed for ground feeding as it is comprised of peanuts in the shells, corn, striped sunflower seed and peanut splits. This is perfect for Wild Turkeys, Squirrels (!), deer and the like.
